Why our servicing is one price.
Ask most garages what a service costs and the honest answer is “depends”. Depends on the engine, the oil, what we find. Ours is £199.99 for an Interim and £299.99 for a Full, and that's the number on the invoice.
Why other places vary it
It isn't a scam, and it's worth understanding. Engines genuinely do differ: a big diesel takes more oil than a small petrol, and some cars need a specific grade that costs more per litre. Cars with more to service have more to check. Parts prices genuinely vary between models.
So a garage pricing by engine band is reflecting something real. The problem isn't that the logic is false. The problem is what it does to you as a customer: you can't know what you're paying until someone has looked at your car, and by then you're already there.
We average it. Some cars cost us more to service than others, and across a year that evens out. You get certainty and we carry the variance, which is the right way round, because we're the ones who can predict it. A cheap little runaround subsidises a thirsty estate slightly, and in exchange nobody gets a surprise.
Servicing prices
If we find something that needs doing beyond the service itself, that is separate work, priced on what it actually needs rather than folded into the service price.
What each price covers.
The core service. An oil and filter change, all fluid levels checked and topped up, and a visual safety check of the brakes, steering, suspension, lights and tyres.
What's included →Everything in an Interim, plus the air filter and the cabin filter, and a more thorough look at the brakes. Fuel filters and spark plugs are fitted where they are required, at an extra cost.

You are told the cost of the service before you book, and that is what goes on the invoice. The only time the figure changes is if we find something that genuinely needs doing beyond the service itself, and that is separate work, explained in plain terms and priced on what it actually needs. Nothing gets added quietly.
