What we do with your information, in plain English.

We ask for as little as we can get away with, we use it to look after your car, and we do not sell it to anybody. This page explains the detail behind that, without the usual legal fog.

Who we are

This website is run by Darnley Garage Services Ltd, a company registered in Scotland under number SC610136, with its registered office at 53 Scotts Road, Paisley, Scotland, PA2 7AN. We are the “data controller” for the information described on this page, which simply means we are the ones responsible for it.

You can reach us at 53 Scotts Road, Paisley, PA2 7AN, by phone on 0141 876 1871, or by email at office@darnleygarage.co.uk. If you want to ask us anything about your information, any of those will reach the right person.

What we collect, and when

We only ask for what we actually need to do the job. There are two places on this site where you give us information, and this is all of it:

When you book online
Your name, your phone number, your vehicle registration, your postcode, the work you have asked for and the date and time you chose.
When you send an enquiry or use the chat
Your name, your phone number and/or your email address, and whatever you write in your message.
When you become a customer
The work we carried out on your vehicle, the parts used, what it cost, and your invoice.

Your postcode is used to work out how far you are from the garage so we can tell you honestly whether we are convenient for you. It is not used to build a profile of you, and we do not buy or add information about you from anywhere else.

We do not knowingly collect information about children, and we do not ask for anything sensitive — no health information, no financial details on this website.

Why we hold it, and what allows us to

Data protection law asks us to be specific about our reasons rather than vague. Ours are:

To do the work you asked for
Booking your car in, confirming the appointment, telling you when it is ready and invoicing you. Without this we cannot provide the service you came here for.
To answer you
If you send an enquiry or a message, we use your contact details to reply. It is in both our interests that we get back to you.
Because the law requires it
MOT testing is regulated by the DVSA, and tax law requires us to keep records of what we invoiced and to whom.
Reminders, only if you want them
We may remind you when your MOT or service is due. You can tell us to stop at any time and we will, without argument.

We do not sell your information to anyone. We do not share it with advertisers. That is not a policy we intend to revisit.

Who else sees it

A small number of suppliers handle information on our behalf so that this website and our workshop system work. They act on our instructions, they are not allowed to use your information for their own purposes, and they are under a written contract with us. The categories are:

Website hosting
The company that serves this website to your browser.
Our database
Where your booking and job history are securely stored.
Email
The provider that carries email between us and you.
Text messages
The provider we use to send appointment and reminder texts.

We are happy to tell you exactly which companies these are — just ask us and we will give you the current list.

Separately, MOT test results are submitted to the DVSA, because that is how MOT testing works in the UK. The DVSA holds MOT history for your vehicle independently of us.

How long we keep it

We keep records of the work we have done on your vehicle and the invoices for it for at least six years, because tax law requires us to. Keeping your service history also means we can answer questions about work we did years ago, which customers ask us for regularly.

If you ask us to stop contacting you, we act on that straight away, and we keep only the minimum needed to make sure we do not contact you again by mistake.

Cookies and tracking

This website does not track you. There is no Google Analytics, no advertising pixel, and no third-party analytics of any kind on it. We are not building a picture of what you look at.

The one thing your browser does store is a random reference for the chat window, so that if you send a message the reply comes back to the right conversation. It contains nothing about you, it never leaves your browser except as that reference, and it is forgotten the moment you close the tab. That is why you are not being asked to click a cookie banner.

Your rights

The information is yours, not ours. Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:

  • show you a copy of what we hold about you
  • correct anything that is wrong
  • delete it, where we are not required to keep it
  • stop using it for a particular purpose, including reminders
  • hand it over in a portable form, or send it to someone else

Ask us using any of the contact details above. We will not charge you, and we will reply within one month. If we cannot do what you have asked, we will tell you plainly why.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would rather you came to us first so we can put it right.

Changes to this page

If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and change the date at the top of it. This version was last updated on 5 September 2026.
